Abstract

A study is made of workpiece position sensing using a fiber optical beam delivery system. The operating principles of the fiber system is discussed. The output optics of a laser optical fiber beam delivery system is shown schematically. The experiments reported in the paper were carried out on a industrial pulsed Nd:YAG laser. The authors demonstrate the new technique of locating workpiece position in laser material processing and show that the technique can be used for other applications.
