Why Managers love Meetings

Abstract

On average, employees attend 16.2 hours of meetings per week and 3 hours of team sync meetings. Roughly one-third to 71 percent of all meetings are considered unproductive. Oftentimes, these meetings are called and conducted by managers. It remains an intriguing question as to why managers love meetings. The article progresses to address nine reasons behind managers' love for meetings, viz., alpha leader, narcissistic personality, bandwagon effect, victim-perpetrator complex, good soldier syndrome, micromanagement, showing "work", developing a social in-group and status. In conclusion, the article highlights organizational trends and stance about meetings, and highlights three ways to hold quality and productive meetings.
