Abstract

We herein report the synthesis and catalytic application of a new family of Ru(II) complexes containing [N,N]-pyrazoline based ligands. Ruthenium complexes (4a-c) were obtained in good yields as air- and moisture-stable compounds. Their catalytic properties were successfully evaluated in the transfer hydrogenation of nitroarenes. The catalytic system formed by complex 4a in combination with hydrazine hydrate as a hydrogen surrogate, in EtOH/water (9:1) as binary solvent, exhibits high catalytic activity, broad tolerance, and good performance for the transfer hydrogenation of several nitroarenes in good to excellent yields, under mild and environmentally friendly reaction conditions.
