    Abstract

Personal organization, communication and engineering awareness are skills recognized as being important to a successful professional engineer and are key requirements of most continuing professional development schemes. The Industrial Liaison Scheme is being developed to encourage first year undergraduate students to develop these skills and to apply them at the outset of their career in civil engineering.
