    Abstract

An upscaling technique is presented for both miscible and immiscible displacements as well as arbitrary geometries and all mobility ratios. In the new method, the dynamic pseudofunctions are produced from a fine grid simulation using a weighted fractional flow formulation with unit-mobility-ratio flow information. The calculation of potential differences is avoided and there is no limitation to flow rates. The flow rates calculated from the coarse grid block boundaries have to be calculated only once to produce the pseudo-relative permeabilities for miscible flow.
