Ultra-short pulsed laser welding: glasses, crystals and metals

Research output: Contribution to conferenceAbstractpeer-review

Abstract

Ultra-short pulsed laser light can be used to weld optical materials (glasses, crystals) to optical materials or to structural materials e.g. metals. This talk will focus on recent developments including new material combinations, weld-induced stress birefringence in the optical component and its comparison with finite element modelling, and discuss possible approaches to minimise this stress.
