Abstract

[Co(C6H10)(CO)3][Fe(Cl)3(C2H3N)], M(r) = 428.35, monoclinic, P2(1)/a, a = 11.259 (10), b = 12.043 (4), c = 12.727 (7) angstrom, beta = 97.53 (6)-degrees, V = 1710.8 angstrom3, Z = 4, D(x) = 1.663 Mg m-3, Mo K-alpha, lambda = 0.71069 angstrom, mu = 2.291 mm-1, F(000) = 856, T = 291 (1) K, R = 0.032 for 1383 independent observed reflections. The title compound, an archetypal Co(I) species, was studied in the hope of gaining further information about [7,7,7-(CO)3-7-CoB10H12]-, which had previously been described formally as a Co(III) complex. Comparison of Co-CO distances and C-O IR stretching frequencies lends support to this conclusion.
