Abstract
Three-dimensional (3D) textiles have been made attraction in the application of protective clothing due to the enhanced mechanical properties in the thickness direction of the fabrics, in comparison to two-dimensional (2D) fabrics. This chapter describes various different 3D woven structures and manufacture techniques which have been investigated in developing such 3D woven structures. Some of the interesting research results from different 3D woven fabrics used for protective clothing such as, soft body armour for police and military personnel, police helmet and body armour ventilation device made from soft 3D performer will be discussed.
