Abstract
The pension funds have become America's new 'tycoons' - surely the most unlikely masters any society ever had. They have attained this position without any struggle, any crisis, any major 'problems'. It is an amazing success story - all the more amazing in that no one apparently has paid much attention to it. (Peter Drucker, 1976)(1).
