Abstract
The relative competitiveness and performance of small manufacturing firms in Scotland and the Mid-West of Ireland: an analysis of matched pairs, Reg. Studies 22, 399-416. Several dimensions of performance are investigated and evaluations of the price and quality competitiveness of product samples are made. Based upon these results, the paper draws a number of policy conclusions most notably that the shift in state aid away from fixed to soft assets - especially towards training and quality control - should be intensified. -from Authors
