Abstract
This paper presents a mathematical model of a countercurrent, moving bed reactor. A system of three coupled reaction diffusion equations is solved by using the pseudo-spectralmethod with path following. The existence of a thin internal boundary layer is found whose gradient steepens as a reaction parameter is gradually reduced. The domain decomposition method is used to help concentrate on the area where the sharp gradient occurs, thus aiding the solution to the problem. © 1991.
