Abstract
Mechanisms for nonlinear optical phenomena in semiconductors are reviewed, having in mind a range of optoelectronic devices. Results for the cubic, wide-bandgap material, zinc selenide are used to example the magnitudes, spectra, and applications of the nonlinearities.
