Abstract
The gas phase i.r. spectra of the nitrosomethanes CClF2NO, CCl2FNO, CCl3NO, CBrCl2NO, CBr2ClNO and CBr3NO in the 3300-200 cm-1 region have been examined. It is concluded that CBr2ClNO exists in two stable isomeric forms with a cis and gauche conformation respectively. For CCl3NO and its heavier derivatives, the spectral region between 1000 and 500 cm-1 is likely to contain more fundamental vibrations than can be inferred from the related aldehydes. The spectra are compared and assignments are suggested for the observed bands. © 1980.
