Abstract
The course of the reaction between NN-dimethyl-p-nitrosoaniline and cyanoacetamide in alcohol has been established as (I) ? (II) ? (III). Nitrosobenzene with cyanoacetamide, methyl cyanoacetate, or ethyl cyanoacetate does not yield normal Sachs compounds, but gives NPh:C(CN)·NPh·OH.
