Abstract

This paper puts forward the concept of global retailing or remote shopping and it describes and discusses new interdisciplinary technologies which have been developed and integrated in the fields of fashion, textiles and apparel industries. The contribution of a physical-based drape model with collision detection able to animate garments on fully-skinned virtual humans is discussed. The electronic networking of textile (yarn and fabric) technical and trade data and its interpretation to enable satellite companies to best serve home retailing has also been considered, and finally intelligent sewing systems are shown how to accept downloadable machine settings for optimum stitching of garments. The paper is shown how these technologies are integrated between them to provide new possibilities for increasing competitiveness in the textile and fashion industries.
