Abstract
Communitarians claim that (a) welfare criteria supported by economists lack a 'moral dimension'; (b) methodological individualism employed in economic models ignores the fact that individuals are capable of unselfish acts; (c) the moral attitudes of economists and the imperfections of their analysis leads to misleading policy advice. Each of these contentions is considered in turn and ultimately rejected.
