Abstract

Reaction between Tl2[7,8-Ph2-7,8-nido-C2B9H 9] and NiCl2(PR3)2 in CH2Cl2 affords three new carbanickelaboranes; 1, R3=Me2Ph; 2, R=Et; 3, (PR3)2=dppe. The molecular structures of all these compounds were established as 1,2-Ph2-4,4-(PR3)2-4,1,2-closo-NiC 2B9H9 by spectroscopic and crystallographic techniques. It is presumed that the first (transient) products of the reactions are the compounds 1,2-Ph2-3,3-(PR3)2-3,1,2-closo-NiC 2B9H9 which rearrange to the observed species by a '1,2 to 1,2' Ccage atom isomerisation to relieve intramolecular overcrowding. © 1999 Elsevier Science S.A.
