Abstract
Climate change and its impacts on socio-environmental dynamics have demanded new ways of understanding and acting upon the territory, especially in areas historically marked by environmental injustices, such as the Amazon. In this context, the central objective was to explore how different levels of governance coordinate climate actions and recognise the ontologies and knowledge systems of Amazonian Indigenous communities within the public climate debate. The interview data analyzed resulted in the identification of three thematic categories: (1) Territorialities and Ways of Life, which highlight the centrality of Indigenous knowledge in land management; (2) Tensions and Conflicts, which point to structural, legal, and epistemological barriers to effective Indigenous participation; and (3) Environmental Governance, which reveals both advances in public policies and the limits imposed by bureaucracy and traditional power structures. The analytical categories described demonstrate that, despite progress in the formulation of public policies aimed at greater Indigenous participation in the climate agenda, significant obstacles still hinder the effective consolidation of a more equitable environmental governance.
