Abstract

Reactions of the ?2-vinyl complex [W {?3-C(CF3)C(CF3)SPri}(CF3CCCF3)(?5C5H5)] with isocyanides RNC give metallacyclopentadiene derivatives [WC(CF3)C(CF3)C(CF3)C(CF3)(SPri)(CNR)2 (?5-C5H5)] (R = Me, Ph or 4-MeC6H4) via coordinatively unsaturated intermediates [WC(CF3)C(CF3)C(CF3)C(CF3)(SPri)(CNR)(?5-C5H5)] isolated and characterised in the case R = 4-MeC6H4. The crystal structure of the d2 complex [WC(CF3)C(CF3)C(CF3)C(CF3)(SPri)-4-MeC6H4NC)2(?5-C5H5)] has been determined by X-ray methods. The WC4(CF3)4 ring system is approximately planar, with single WC bonds, mean length 2.210(4) Å, and localised CC double bonds. © 1989.
