Abstract

Automated fault diagnosis of engineering systems and industrial processes is an active research area in both AI and control systems engineering. Both fields use model obtained from principled system structure and behavior knowledge to make predictions about behavior. An architecture for parameter identification, based on qualitative modeling and reasoning techniques is presented. This is used as the basis for a time constrained model based diagnosis system. Also outlined is the QPID (Qualitative parameter identification for diagnosis) architecture.
