Abstract

Over the years, there has been considerable interest in the generation of cw laser radiation at usable power levels in the 2-4-µm spectral region. Recently, this approach, coupled with the application of area scaling techniques has facilitated the generation of laser power levels in excess of 5 W in good quality laser beams. Moreover, the unique characteristics of the RF discharge are seen to be particularly suitable for providing efficient excitation of the atomic xenon laser system.
