Abstract
A false twist hook is currently used in hollow spindle spinning machines to facilitate the manufacturing processes of several textile products. A study was conducted to investigate its effect on the production of gimp yarns and overfed fancy yarns which have multi-thread structures made in a one-stage process on hollow spindle machines. These fancy yarns were compared with their counterparts produced without using the false-twist hook. Significant differences were reported between these two groups of fancy yarn regarding extension at the first break, load at the first break and extension at the breakage point of the effect component. The size of the effect profiles and the number of the fancy profiles were smaller when false twist was used. The results confirmed the highly wavy and sigmodial structure of the fancy yarns made by using the false twist hook over a wide range of overfeed ratios.
