Abstract

This paper describes the development of a system which facilitates the programmable fixturing of a family of castings. It discusses previous work done in the area and categorizes two approaches to the problem. The adopted approach exploits the similarities between workpieces enabling the design of an Adjustable Integral Fixture Pallet. A computer controlled fixturing cell incorporating a Pallet Loading Station, a vision sensor and a robot is described. Future developments are also discussed.
