Polyconvexity and stability of equilibria in nonlinear elasticity

Abstract

This note establishes a stability result for C1 weak solutions to the equilibrium equations of nonlinear elasticity under the constitutive assumption of strict polyconvexity. That is, for a large class of polyconvex stored-energy functions all C1 weak equilibria are strong local minimizers with respect to variations of sufficiently small support. © 1990 Oxford University Press.
