    Abstract

Reviews the experience of the Bathgate area to two stages of restructuring: 1) the designation of Livingston New Town and the arrival of vehicle manufacture, following the collapse of traditional heavy industry, and, 2) the reassessment and planning implications of the vehicle plant closure, which may reemphasise socio-economic spatial differentiation in the sub-region. -T.Hoare
