Abstract
The project is based on creating more effective industry/university links that allow faster response times by creating a local data network to exchange information. The textiles, clothing and retailing industries need to be more responsive if they are to compete in the world markets. They have to respond quickly to changes in consumer demand, predict the performance of fabric. The deliverables of this project will enable engineering of the finished product very quickly to meet demand, based on readily available objective data. The group will act as central provider of equipment and expertise, and firms will be able to exchange data and ideas on problems, optimize spinning and weaving, develop new fabrics, accredit suppliers and generally help the introduction of JIT and RFT.
