Abstract

We report on the observation of transverse mode induced instability and chaos in a TEA CO₂ laser for a homogeneous to inhomogeneous line broadening ration of ~ 75:1. Such irregular pulsations are however found to be absent for multiaxial single transverse mode (TEM₀₀) operation of the laser. © 1986.
