Abstract
Huge instabilities leading to chaos are reported in the emission from a single mode homogeneously broadened laser which uses optically pumped NH3 gas as the active medium and operates on 12.8 µm. Dependent on operating conditions the routes to chaos are predominantly characterised by period doubling and intermittency. © 1985.
