Abstract

The measurements of nonlinear refraction in the GeS2 based glasses using the Z-scan method are reported. Ga2S3, CsI, and SnS were added to the GeS2 glass to improve the thermal stability of the glass. These glasses have much higher band edge and do not exhibit two-photon absorption at the telecom wavelengths. These glasses showed the highest nonlinear refraction and the magnitude of nonlinear refractive index is similar at wavelengths 1.3 and 1.5 µm. The sample does not show nonlinear absorption in the open aperture Z-scan experiments.
