Abstract

A film of piezoelectric polyvinylidene fluoride (PVF2) under a stress of 3.5×106 N m-2 was subjected to a periodic driving force for a range of frequencies through a fundamental resonance. Shifts in frequency and discontinuous jump phenomena were observed by monitoring the generated voltage. The results are shown to correspond to a nonlinear Young's modulus Y=[(2.9±0.2) ×109-(2.1±0.3) ×1014S2] N m-2 where S is the dynamic strain.
