Abstract
The results of a preliminary study of the translational energy and rotational quantum stare resolved scattering of nitric oxide (NO) from well-characterised monolayers of carbon monoxide (CO) and ethylidyne (CCH3) on a Pt(111) substrate are reported. Both direct inelastic and trapping/desorption scattering mechanisms are observed. An initial interpretation of the experimental observations considering the effects of the adlayer polarity and molecular complexity is made.
