Abstract
The paper discusses what may be achieved by model basin tests on catenary risers. The special problems of model construction and of instrumentation to measure loads and displacements are reviewed. Some results are given from tests in waves and current on a single strand steep 'S' configuration riser. The tests were carried out at 1:16 scale and represented a riser installation from a floating vessel in 110m (360 ft) water depth.
