Abstract

Title full: Metal-promoted insertion and cyclisation reactions of alkynes: the crystal and molecular structures of [Mo?4- C(CF3)C(CF3)C(CF3)C(CF3)SPr i (PEt3) (?5-C5H5)] and [Mo?1-C(CF3)C(CF3)SC6F 5 (CF3CCCF3)(O)(?5-C5H 5)]. Bis-alkyne [MSR'(CF3CCCF3)2(?5 -C5H5)] and ?2-vinyl complexes M(?3-C(CF3)C(CF3)SR' (CF3CCCF3)(?5-C5H5 )] (M = Mo, W, R' = alkyl, aryl or perfluoroaryl) undergo a variety of insertion and oligomerisation reactions which are promoted by coordination of a ligand, e.g. PR3, O, to the metal centre. This can be rationalised in terms of a switch in the bonding mode of the alkynes from 3- to 2-electron donation to the metal. © 1988.
