Abstract
After the COVID-19 pandemic, the demand for self-service healthcare solutions that allow individuals to track their vital signs independently without physical contact has increased. Additionally, poor lifestyle habits such as reduced physical activity, increased consumption of processed foods, and smoking has led to a rise in diagnosis of chronic diseases like diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease. Such patients require frequent hospital visits for their vital monitoring, creating long waiting queue and increasing nurses’ workload for performing the pre-consultation vital checkup. To address this challenge, MediCheck Express, a smart self-service kiosk for monitoring of vital health parameters is proposed. The kiosk uses an Arduino microcontroller to connect various sensors for measuring height, weight, body temperature, and heart rate. It includes a facial recognition system for patient verification before use. The system captures patient’s face using a webcam, matches it with the stored dataset, and confirms the patient name and mobile number. Once verified and a patient is detected in front of the kiosk by the sensors, speaker module activates for audio guidance. The kiosk also includes a data collection system, by displaying a patient questionnaire and automatically storing the responses in a spreadsheet. The form uses a language translator to allow patients to view and respond in their preferred language (English-Arabic-French). The responses are conventionally stored in default language, English. This IoT-based project offers an easier and more efficient healthcare service. Preliminary results from prototype testing show accuracy and reliability, highlighting its potential for use in hospitals or clinics.
