Abstract

This paper presents Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) in data centres facility. The aim of the research is to propose a way to reduce PUE in data centres. PUE is an important metric tool that estimates the electrical energy efficiency in a data centre. Based on findings, the lower the PUE, the more energy efficient of the data centre operation. There are various forms of factors that can contribute to the PUE reading in a data centre. These factors originate from physical infrastructure, design, and operation of a data centre, whereby it is truly a challenge to produce a lower PUE. In this paper, the enhancement of design and operation of a data centre from the electrical perspective is proposed by designing an energy meter concept with measurement feature of Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) and PUE with placing a few sources in data centre that consumes power at the centre. As a results, THD measurement is evidently important in power system efficiency and may directly affect the PUE.
