Abstract
The forecasts of the Department of Transportation in Britain regarding the increase in the volume of motor transportation by trucks up to the year 2025 are critically assessed quoting the opinions by different experts. Some of the underlying causes of the steep increase in truck traffic on Britain's roads, particularly during the 1980s are examined.
