Abstract
The time for which molecular vibrational energy can remain localized is compared for two types of classical nonlinearity: 1) Intrinsic which arises from a nonlinear restoring force (such as in the CH stretching modes of benzene), and ii) Extrinsic which comes about through coupling to low frequency phonons. © 1989.
