Abstract

In this paper a new theory is proposed about the different roles of the normal and the Simmelian broker in learning in cliques. To this aim two opposite views within the social network theory: the power of ‘weak ties’ (Granovetter, 1973) and the power of strong Simmelian ties (Simmel, 1950) are synthesized in relation to learning in cliques.
