    Research output: Book/ReportBook

    Abstract

The sources of microorganisms available to biotechnologists are discussed and many national organizations holding large collections are listed. Some sampling strategies are considered and isolation methods, both direct and enrichment culture methods, are described. This includes: pretreatment of samples, dilution and incubation, media, baiting methods, specialized enrichment systems and their applications, enrichments from sea water, enrichments for biomass production, enrichments for nitrate-reducing bacteria, enrichments for complex media, biodegradation, and heterogeneous continuous flow media.
