Abstract

Research in the area of intelligent manufacturing systems is discussed, with particular emphasis on the development of a new generation of intelligent sewing machines whose settings would be arrived at automatically in response to sewing conditions. The elements of an intelligent sewing system are outlined, in the context of a new discipline of Intelligent Textile and Garment Manufacture.
