Integrated Well Testing, PVT and Simulation Analysis for Gas Condensate Reservoirs

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingConference contribution

Abstract

Summary Gas and condensate reservoirs exhibit complex behaviors that require extra considerations in their understanding to be effectively managed within conventional oil and gas workflows. As these reservoirs become more critical in the energy transition, especially when discovered under challenging high pressure and temperature conditions (HP/HT), it's essential to address their complexities. Well testing (WT) analysis, under the right assumptions, is a powerful tool for reservoir characterization, offering insights that build upon traditional diagnostics and cannot be answered solely by a build-up test. This paper integrates WT with PVT modeling and compositional simulation, aiming to improve recovery strategies in line with the evolving energy landscape. PVT analysis is crucial for understanding the phase behavior of gas-condensate systems, while compositional reservoir simulation allows for dynamic modeling of various scenarios, optimizing production strategies. The paper advocates a holistic approach, offering recommendations for the condensate reservoir management within the changing energy paradigm. By integrating WT data with a comprehensive PVT analysis and compositional simulation, this approach enhances our understanding of gas-condensate dynamics and informs the development of optimal production strategies for similar fields (Vera-Rodriguez, 2023).
