Abstract
This paper presents a summary of an integrated computer aided design, draughting and cost analysis of a family of Insulating Joint Couplings. These couplings are installed as part of the cathodic protection system of offshore structures. Problems associated with the small batch design of the couplings are described. A computerised system has been developed to perform the tasks of design, draughting and estimating of the couplings. The Finite Element method has been used to assess the structural integrity of the coupling and to validate design calculations based on strength of materials solutions for pipe flange problems.
