Abstract
A linear stability analysis is presented for the exchange of mass between a coherently strained array of faceted surface ridges. We demonstrate that the ridge array is unstable for all surface coverages. This has direct implications for the processing (annealing) of coherently strained surface nanostructures with an elongated geometry, such as quantum nanowires. ©2005 The American Physical Society.
