    Abstract

An experimental program is undertaken to investigate the influence of damage on cracking behaviour of Ductile Fiber Reinforced Cementititous Composite (DFRCC) plates under four-point bending test. The DFRCCs tested were the Engineered Cementitious Composite (ECC) and Ductal. The damage was of flexural cracking with different strain levels and orientation. After being pre-damaged and further loaded, a bi-directional crack pattern was always observed, comprising of initial (pre-) cracks and secondary cracks. For the former material, the effects of pre-crack orientation on the orientation of the secondary cracks were minimal, as indicated by an orthogonal crack pattern, whereas the effects on the later material were more substantial, as evidenced by non-orthogonal crack formation. Moreover, the initial damage was also found to influence the plate behaviour in terms of reductions in initial stiffness and strength.
