Abstract

This paper presents an improved active power filter which utilises a deadband triplen injected pulse-width modulation (PWM) switching pattern. The scheme employs a voltage source inverter for reactive power and harmonic compensation. The presented triplen PWM enables higher modulation indices to be achieved hence facilitating a smaller size of reactive component on the dc side. Deadbanding reduces the effective switching frequency thus minimising the switching losses and resultant stresses.
