Abstract

Image coding has produced various techniques for solving basic coding problem. The techniques include prediction, transformation, motion compensation, and variable wordlength coding from the basis of all standards. The algorithm is highly efficient and given really accurate motion compensation, the resulting signal is noiseless and suitable for further data compression. The standardization activity of the past ten years has stimulated a revolution in digital image manipulation, creating possibilities and storage undreamt of in the 1980's.
