Habitação social e Comunidades Resilientes em Áreas Ribeirinhas no Sul do Brasil: O caso do Pontal da Barra, Pelotas/RS

Quality housing is a basic human right, but with the rapid growth of cities, many regions are neglected. As a consequence, part of the population lives without access to the basic structure or quality of life. Communities abandoned by the government have negative effects, such as crime and social inequality. This article deals with a proposal for urban requalification and social housing for the community of Pontal da Barra, on the coast of the city of Pelotas in Rio Grande do Sul. The project was developed as an exercise in the discipline of the Atelier of the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism, Federal University of Pelotas. Through the active participation of residents, it was possible to develop a project sensitive to the needs of users, respecting the culture that already exists in the place. Because it has a high rate of elderly residents, the basic infrastructure that the community lacked also needed to be inclusive, especially for those with mobility difficulties. The analysis of references and the study of the region were essential to achieve the objective initially proposed by the discipline, which was to present solutions for requalification for the region, expanding development opportunities and a higher quality of life for residents.
