In this paper we highlight how research carried out as part of the International Centre for Carbonate Reservoirs (ICCR) helped us to address some of these challenges through novel integration of geoscience, engineering, and mathematics. ICCR is a research alliance between Heriot-Watt University, University of Edinburgh, Oxford University. It specifically focuses on characterising and modelling pre-salt carbonate rocks offshore Brazil and has been supported by Petrobras and Shell.
