Abstract
The author focuses on bulk petrochemicals manufacture and specialty products, as it is in these areas where the biggest changes in the foreseeable future appear to be most likely. The future of bulk petrochemicals production should be seen against a background of an expected doubling of production worldwide by the year 2000. Ethanol extraction, liquid CO//2 extraction, and hydrophilic (aqueous) two-phase systems are discussed in detail.
