Abstract

This paper studies frequency-domain backscatter communication (BackCom) links. Specifically, we propose a new conjugate multiplication (CM) method that enablesfrequency-domain BackCom functional for dynamic digitally IQ-modulated ambient signals. Through both theoretical analysis and its millimeter Wave (mmWave) proof-of-conceptexperimental validation, its feasibility and performance superiority for different ambient signals, e.g., single-tone continuous wave (CW) and QPSK modulated signals of different bandwidth, are demonstrated and compared with the traditional frequency-shifted and recently proposed Quadrature Demod (QD) method.
